Your skin is your largest organ and yet we often pay it the least attention. Your skin is exposed to many different external factors that can damage, irritate and worsen its condition, thus harming your skin health. This can bring irreversible consequences.
Today we seek to align our habits and customs with the values we defend. Leading a sustainable life in all aspects is a path that starts with small changes such as not consuming single-use plastics, shopping in bulk or supporting sustainable fashion.
We are increasingly aware of our present, with those realities that are not so far away as well as the defense of the environment and the importance of the health of our planet. At Verdonce we believe in a way of life in total harmony with our environment because small choices matter.
Now is always a good time to go one step further, so we want to share some secrets to take care of your skin in a more sustainable way, taking into account your needs and those of the planet.

The 5 external factors that can damage your skin
When in good condition, your skin works to protect your body against harmful environmental factors that can cause irritations, produce allergies, rashes etc. This amazing natural process keeps the skin looking soft, calm, well hydrated and homogeneous in colour.
There are internal factors, also called endogenous, such as genetics and hormones, but today we focus on external (exogenous), those that can accelerate the aging of our skin, make it weaker or reactive, and that can vary depending on our lifestyle. These five factors stand out:
1. Pollution
If you live in the city, you will have noticed that even though you might not put makeup on, when you perform your facial routine at night, dirt appears on the discs or towels you use. This is due to the small particles of nitrogen dioxide and high levels of ozone that dirty, dry and irritate your skin and therefore accelerate the aging process.
2. The sun
Overexposure to the sun, sunbathing without moderation and not protecting the skin 365 days a year, causes harmful effects and ages it. Dermatologists consider that UVA rays, infrared radiation and visible light (especially the colour blue) have a large impact on aging of the skin.
3. Tobacco
It is nothing new to say that smoking encourages the appearance of wrinkles and dulls the luminosity of your complexion. In addition, it deteriorates the skin due to the action of oxidative stress and prevents the functioning of the body’s antioxidant defenses against the dreaded free radicals.
4. Stress
Another great enemy of the dermis that causes a hormonal imbalance. Cortisol, or stress hormone, inhibits the production of collagen and elastin, proteins that help keep the skin smooth and wrinkle-free.
5. Lack of sleep
Night rest is essential for the proper functioning of our body, as well as the biological processes of our skin. During the night the processes of cell regeneration begin, if we reduce them, we limit the renewal and thus our ability to maintain a healthy and youthful skin.
The formula for a sustainable facial routine
By changing certain habits you can avoid some of the serious consequences caused by external factors that affect the state of the skin, leading a slower and more conscious pace of life. However, you can go further and take meticulous care of the skin to protect it and help preserve its youthful appearance for longer. Take note of the following:
SLEEP + GOOD DIET + PLENTY OF WATER = GREAT SKIN
This formula seems simple but requires a lot of commitment and perseverance, those are the keys to success.
Drinking up to two liters of water a day will keep your skin hydrated and rejuvenated as it lubricates the different layers of skin that cause wrinkles. In addition, if you drink some water before going to bed, the body will be hydrated throughout the night and you will sleep much better.
As for diet, avoid toxins that can overload the detox organs like the liver and kidneys. Steer clear of food that does not provide vital vitamins or minerals for cell renewal, such as refined or ultra-processed flours and sugars. A vegan diet has many such health benefits due to its abundance of vitamins and minerals and lack of harmful animal proteins or fats.
Don’t forget that the skin is often a reflection of your inner health and wellbeing. As we say at Verdonce; small changes start at home. So it’s up to you to take the first step.
Commit to natural, artisanal cosmetics
Taking care of your skin can be very beneficial for the planet. A few changes to your routine and beauty products make all the difference. Sustainability should be core to the products you choose. Always back brands that respect the environment and quality skin care. Our list of favorite natural cosmetic brands includes, among others, LaMalvaflor, The Singular Olivia, Victoria Moradell, or Rowse Beauty.

Before buying, visit the brand’s website, take a look at their values, their production process, the materials they use for their packaging, look at the label in detail and into account the following:
Always choose natural ingredients
Perhaps you have never stopped to consider just of how little benefit conventional cosmetics are, both for our body and for the planet. The vast majority of products are full of toxic, non-biodegradable ingredients that we throw down the drain every day. The solution? Use natural and ecological cosmetics that are free of parabens, silicones, paraffins and a long etcetera. In doing so you’ll be contributing your grain of sand to take care of marine biodiversity and wild fauna and flora.
If it is not cruelty free, it is not an option

This label that you see on cosmetics packaging means that no active ingredients in the formula are of animal origin and have not been tested on animals. A sign of respect for the environment. They are sustainable cosmetics, both in their formula and in the production process.
Social and environmental commitment
Brands that make clean cosmetics use recycled or recyclable materials for their jars and packaging. They strive to ensure that their production processes have the least environmental impact, respect the rights of workers and, ultimately, be as transparent as possible with the final consumer.
Natural, vegan, plastic free fibres – your best bathroom ally
If we continue to consume like this, we will end up destroying the planet. This is one of the reflections that has probably crossed your mind as you read this post.
The evolution of environmentalism and your commitment to it means responsible consumers like yourself consider all the details: Whether a product has been made on the other side of the world in unknown conditions; whether it contains microplastics that will end up in the sea; if the materials used are free of toxics; and a long list of requirements that must be met to conform to your values.
Because what happens at home stays on the planet
Did you know that the bathroom is one of the places where most household waste is generated? At Verdonce we have a motto: what happens at home stays on the planet. We want to help you create a more conscientious home. So we decided to create a sustainable bathroom collection entirely from natural vegan fibres, free from plastic, and designed and produced in Spain.
